About
Since 2016 J Barnett Gardens has developed a reputation for delivering bespoke garden design, construction and soft landscaping in the local area. We pride ourselves on giving our clients a tailored service to meet their needs from day one.
The Team is made up of a diverse independent group who each bring unique skills and passions, coming together under the umbrella of J Barnett Gardens.
James Barnett
James spent his childhood helping his parents in their small but plant packed garden, which ignited an early passion for plants and gardening. While searching for the right job James began working for Nugent Care [www.wearenugent.org/], a Charity working in the North West, carrying out grounds maintenance on the 10 acre St Thomas More site in Birkdale. This work was rewarding and varied, it led to the re-opening of the ‘Poly Tunnel Project’ where clients with mental health problems helped grow bedding plants for sale to the public.
Inspired by this work James went on to study Horticulture, Garden Design and Horticultural Therapy at Myerscough College and go on to work for another charity, Parkhaven Trust [www.parkhaven.org.uk/]. This is a charity based in Maghull where he helped deliver horticultural therapy to clients with dementia, epilepsy and special educational needs.
After 13 years working for different charities, in 2016 James and his mum Liz set up J Barnett Gardens, developing a reputation for delivering bespoke garden maintenance and design to the local area.
Louise
A life long gardener, Louise’s childhood passion was creating miniature gardens in seed trays in her parents’ garden. She has scaled up to full sized gardens since then.
Louise’s background is in Environmental Science and Early Years education.
J Barnett Gardens welcomed Louise to the team in 2018, taking over from Liz when she retired.
Louise brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. She is especially skilled in environmental and wildlife friendly gardening, and making gardens family friendly.
Liz
The founding member of J Barnett Gardens, ably supported by her husband Lou from the home office. In their 50 plus years together, they have been enthusiastic and knowledgeable amateur gardeners and now spend a good deal of their days in their plant packed garden.
They both had varied careers, which for Liz included being a Magistrate, being Chair of the Board of Merseyside Probation Trust - and of course starting J Barnett Gardens.
Liz and Lou finished working in 2018, and now spend their time supporting James and Louise in the business, and keeping their own garden as spick and span as they can.
They open it to the public to support a local charity, supported by James, Vicky and the grandchildren who very enthusiastically show visitors around the garden.
Badger
A memento of Louise’s previous job as the manager of a local Preschool, Badger keeps the van safe.
